We have the need to create PDF/A-documents, either from TIFF/JPEG or PDF itself. Are there any plans to support PDF/A?

If I'm not mistaken, you yourself have to make it an pdf/a,eg. embed fonts, objects, metadata, etc.

Hello,

support for PDF/A 1b compliance is highly appreciated. Also a validation mechanism similar to Adobes' Preflight for PDF documents is needed.
I am working with sensitive medical data stored in PDF documents, which need to be converted to PDF/A-1b and validated before sent to the archive.

Thanks for your hard work, pdfSharp is great to use and helped a lot in my projects so far!

Best regards
cyclonick

Hi !

How far is this support for PDF/A documents? I am trying to find any project (library) that would allow me to convert (or recreate) 1.3 files into 1.4 with PDF/A features.

I asked about PDF/A (with an offer to do some work if necessary) 3 years ago, and was told that it was on the list, and pointed to this thread, but I cannot see any recent activity in this regard :(

My offer to do some work stands, but it would be nice to know if anyone would be willing to assist us by pointing to the aspects which need the work!

Hi,

I'm looking forward to the PDF/A feature, are there any detailed plans now? When do you expect this feature to be released?

Regards
Michael

Wow, this thread is 16 years old. I guess that support for PDF/A isn't on the to do-list then?

Wrong guess.

Hi,
I have just upgraded to the latest version of pdfsharp (6.1.0) (.net), I was using version 1.50.
I was hoping to find the ability to generate PDF/A-3 files, but it still doesn't seem possible.
Do you have any idea when this feature will be available?
Maybe it already is and I haven't figured out how to do it ...

It's on the To Do list, so it cannot be used yet.
I cannot give you an ETA.

The PDF/A-3 format will be urgently needed for the creation of digital invoices from 2025.
Is it included in version 6.1.1?

There is limited support for PDF/A (don't ask me for the exact version) in PDFsharp 6.2.0 Preview 1.
You can download the source, set version to PDF/A-3 and see if you can create correct files.

Is there a legal background? Links?

Thanks for the links.
So, PDF/A does not qualify as E-Rechnung, but ZUGFeRD does.

In my opinion that is not correct.
ZUGFeRD is not a program, it's a data format.
The document consists of a readable PDF, containing an XML file with the machine-readable data.
Our program creates an invoice as a PDF using PdfSharp.
To generate a valid ZUGFeRD invoice, we have now to embed the additionally generated XML file into the PDF and save it as PDF A/3 format.

To clarify: ZUGFeRD is a standard built on top of PDF/A-3. It specifies what information must and may be included with the PDF. In particular, it's the embedded XML, which has to be in a specific format, that qualifies ZUGFeRD as an E-Rechnung.

Since the ability to provide invoices as E-Rechnung is becoming mandatory by law as of 1.1.2025 in Germany, many tools need to be enhanced with this functionality.

Edit: And yes, I'd like this, too.
