I wonder if there are any plans to enhance the encryption to support 256-bit AES as supported by PDF 1.7 / Acrobat X and above?

Not on the roadmap for the near future, but I think it would make sense to have it.

We think it would be good to have that new encryption, but we cannot estimate how complicated the implementation will be.
