I am using an XStringFormat to set Alingment to XStringAlignment.Far to put dollar amount to the far side of a rectangle (right aligned in the column) Works great. But it sits on the edge and if I add a spacer (blank space or character) it still sits agains the right edge of the rectangle. Is there a way to get a single space to pull it off the line?

Have you tried a non-breaking space?
