I am working on a processing service application where I need to merge multiple PDFs as part of the processing.

Will PDFSharp work in this situation?

That depends.

Precise answers require precise input.

Which type of service? Which host?
It will work if the service has appropriate permissions.

Hi,

I am referring to a Windows Service application. Usually GDI+ and WPF are not supported due to the fact that Windows Services don't contain a UI.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms533798(v=vs.85).aspx

I specifically am trying to replace iTextSharp for merging multiple pre-generated PDFs

The WPF build of PDFsharp does not use GDI+.
IMHO it is worth a try.

I looked into using WPF from a service. Also it does not come recommended by Microsoft.
If it was for a personal app I would have a try, but the service will be running on a critical server and I cannot risk using GDI+/WPF in an unsupported and unrecommended manner.

This is a bummer, I need a replacement for iTextSharp I can use from a service :(
