In a line-of-business application we have here, we take in faxes as PDF files. Some of the faxes have multiple pages in them. Normally, that's no problem. However, we've run into a handful of cases recently that crashed the PDFsharp library at the PdfSharp.Pdf.PdfDocument.get_PageCount() method call. In all cases, the PDF files showed a version of 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x). We haven't found any files with a version of 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) that has cause us any problems with this. Is there a known issue with this method call and PDF files of version 1.3? Or is there something else we should be looking for? By the way, we're showing a PDFsharp version of 1.3.1684.0 and a runtime version of 2.0.50727. Are there more current versions we should be updating to?

Thanks in advance to all for any helpful replies!

Latest version is 1.32.2608.

PDF version means nothing. You should look for the PDF Creator (see Document Properties in Adobe Reader).

If you get exceptions with the latest build, please supply a PDF file for testing.

I'm not finding a PDF Creator field anywhere in Document Properties with Adobe Reader 10.1.2. Do you mean PDF Producer? If so, this field is blank in these documents.

Unfortunately, these documents contain confidential information and I would not be allowed to share them.

I meant PDF producer.
There are many programs around - and quite a few do not fully adhere to the PDF specification. Adobe Reader is pretty good at reading somewhat incorrect PDF files - where PDFsharp will fail sometimes.

You don't have to upload confidential files to the forum, you can submit them e.g. via e-mail and only two empira developers will see them and no-one else. Not much we can do if they are too confidential for that.

Any chance to find out who produced the files? Maybe you can get some test files that are not confidential.

Thomas - thanks for your amazingly prompt replies. I wish a lot of non-open source suppliers we used were as responsive as you!

I will try to find out what systems are being used to generate these PDF files and see if they can send us one without confidential information in it that we can forward to you.
