I've tried to find an answer to my question here on the forum, but have failed.
Is it possible to open a .doc document and convert it to pdf (with MigraDoc PdfRenderer, for example)? I realize that MigraDoc can convert to pdf, but I couldn't find if it can open existing documents.

MigraDoc is a Document Creator, not a Document Converter.

If you write the part that reads and parses .DOC files, you can use MigraDoc to create PDF.
