I've downloaded PDFSharp and it looks ideal for what I need.

However I can't seem to get any sort of reference or help file to work in order to get started using it.

I downloaded the compiled html help file but when I open it every link in the content shows an error page in the right panel saying the address is invalid. I tried re-downloading the file from a different mirror server but the same error persists.

So then I tried downloading the VSIPCC help file instead. This downloads as a windows msi installation package which I then executed. This appears to install a batch of files into a folder under program files, but there is no application to run them with, and if I try and open any of the installed files Windows has no idea what to do with them.

I'm thinking that maybe neither of the above help packages are compatible with Windows 7, which is the OS I am running. Or is there some further undocumented step I need to do to get the help working.

...any chance of a helpfile to explain how to use the help files? ;-)

The VSIPCC help needs the Document Explorer that comes with Visual Studio.

I'll try to test the CHM version under Windows 7.
Is it a 32-bit or a 64-bit version of Windows?

I tried it under Windows 7 today and it worked.

It failed at first when I opened the file from another computer via an UNC path.
Then I copied the PDFsharp and MigraDoc Documentation.chm file to the Windows 7 computer and it worked.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I still don't seem to be getting anywhere...

Is there some additional step or install I need to do with Visual Studio to get the VSIPCC helpfiles to work? I can't find a "Document Explorer" option anywhere in the user interface, and if I try dragging one of the installed files into VS it just opens it as XML. It's a bit strange as Windows Explorer clearly recognises the files as it describes them correctly, yet it doesn't seem to know what to open them with.

Attached is a screenshot of the error I get when I open the html help file. The right pane gives this "navigation cancelled" error regardless of where I click to in the menu on the left.

As an aside, I've used the product by trial and error and I'm very impressed with it, it would just be even better if I could get the help reference to work too...

That's what I got when I opened the CHM file using a UNC path.

Did you unzip the ZIP file you downloaded to a local folder?

The VSIPCC must be installed using setup.
You'll find it if you press F1 inside Visual Studio (pressing F1 invokes the Document Explorer).

I did, and I've also even tried copying the CHM file to the root of drive C: but I still get the same error.

Thanks for that, finally I can see it and all is well!

(Who'd have thought of pressing F1 for help... )

Thanks for all your help,

John

Maybe this can help:
Quote:
IMPORTANT!

If you open the CHM and cannot view content, do the following to resolve the issue:
- Right-click the CHM file, and then click "Properties".
- Click "Unblock".
- Double-click the .chm file to open the file.
